United Kingdom mortality rate

The current COVID-19 mortality rate in the UK is 26 people per million population. That is 0.0026%. This figure will no doubt increase but bear in mind that the vast majority of deaths are from underlying health condition exacerbated by the presence of the disease or from upper respiratory tract infection caused by the disease.

If two in three deaths are not directly caused by COVID-19 – and would likely have occurred from seasonal or winter flu exacerbating the same underlying health condition – then the mortality rate reduces further to 9 people per million population or 0.0009%.

The average mortality rate for seasonal or winter flu is in the range 0.1% – 0.2% but can be as high as 2% (source: World Health Organisation).

Do not panic. Do not worry. Do not believe government advice.
